THE DPO INVITATIONAL
I was fortunate when I started playing, in the 90's, that I was able to play along side one of the
"God Fathers" of the sport, Steve Distad @ Paintball Sam's in WI for Thursday night "Bar
Wars" leagues. He started back in the 80's and played "ruthlessly" for the SOBs and other
teams. I remember when I started, we were all amazed that he could shoot 8 balls per
second on a rope, WOW, times change. Steve is a person that loves the sport. He has been
in it for over 20 years and is still in it, not because he makes money but simply because he
loves to be around it. He still can be found at Paintball Sams work'n out of his minivan every
weekend as AEROSTAR of WISCONSIN. I hear this will be coming to an end soon so I just
wanted to thank Steve for everything he has done for the sport and all us players, Thanks
Steve.
I ran a 5man team in "Bar Wars" for years and then after the 2003 season, we decided to start
doing some tournaments in the upcoming season. I remember looking forward to the
upcoming season, so much.
I was up north on a hunting trip in November of 2003 when it happened, My Accident. I had
an accident in which I suffered a broken neck that had left me paralyzed from the neck down.
I was told I may never walk again but I pushed on with the support of many family, friends and
Dr.s. I can't forget the therapists and nurses, "with out them - a person would never make it,
Thank You". With hard work and dedication, I was able to gain most of the control of my
body. Yes, not only am I walking again, but I have played again. "Paintball is some of the
best physical and mental therapy you can find".
In 2006, I organized The Damage Paintball Order, Inc. We are an organization that is
dedicated and committed to the Sport of Paintball. Helping to grow the sport as a Community.
We are here to serve as an educational and developmental organization providing the
experience for amateur athletes to participate in national and international amateur paintball
sports competition.
We continue to grow as an organization and continue to help the sport grow with The DPO
INVITATIONAL. It was developed with bits and pieces of all the places we have been to and
people we have met along the way. We can be found at various fields and events across
the nation either competing or practicing and getting ready to compete.
If a team really gets the concept of The DPO INVITATIONAL, including the 3man and 5man
together as practice for skillz and also for team building along with being able to be on two
rosters each day, for some, will be the best practice on being ready to go when your team
needs you - THEY ARE COUNTING ON YOU! In order to compete at an XBall level, it takes a
good 3 - 4 different lines ready to go. A true XBall team should have at least 12 teams (or
lines) in this event, including 3man and 5man, in order to take full advantage of the practice
that they would be able to receive. You will find no other practice like it. Make sure you
bring your backup equipment because you will be pounding games out.
The best part, if your a new team and just want to get the experience and work on your skillz
as a team, you are able to do that with as little as a 3man team or a 5man team for $70 per
player (one case of paint and air included). It also includes free lunch for the players and
staff (that are on the roster) along with many other things including great prizes and
benefits. Whatever your level maybe, this event will help you out and give ya a great place
to be at and great people to be around for the celebration of World Paintball Day.
I would like to thank all the great people we have encountered along this wonderful journey
and look forward to many more. See ya in June.
